A safeword is a codeword or series of codewords that are sometimes used in BDSM to mean that a bottom or submissive is reaching a limit or for the Top/Dom tostop the sceneplay. Safewords are agreed upon before playing a scene by all participants. Many organized BDSM groups have standard safewords that all members agree to use to avoid confusion at organized play events.

This is generally used so that the bottom can scream "no, stop", etc. as much as s/he wants without really meaning it, and still have a way of indicating a serious desire that the scene stops. Accordingly, a safeword is usually a word that the person would not ordinarily say during sex, such as red, tree, anomaly, or even safeword.

Some partners have different gradations of safeword, such as yellow to mean "that hurts" or "stop doing that" without stopping the scene, and red to mean "let's stop the scene". In other circumstances the safeword may not be a "word" at all, but a signal like dropping a ball or similar, or making three clear and rhythmic grunts or vigorous motions in the case of a person who is gagged or bound. A common convention of tops putting a finger in the bottom's hand is used if the bottom has become non-verbal, such as may happen as they reach subspace. In this scenario the bottom squeezes a pre-determined number of times to indicate OK.

A common request from the top to the bottom, to check on their status, is to ask "What is your color?" In addition to red and yellow, green is a common safe word used to indicate, "I'm fine."

In the case of sexual role-play, some simply drop out of character to safeword, such as having the submissive address the dominant by his/her first name.

While many in the BDSM community consider safewords an essential part of safe play, there is a significant contingent that does not have any such term in their relationships or their play. Some of these people simply use the word Stop. Others rely on the top to monitor the condition of the bottom and stop if necessary, at their discretion. In such circumstances the bottom or submissive must have consented not to have control over the duration of the scene in advance.

Interestingly some of those who recommend safewords do not, themselves, use them though this is not often discussed in public. There is an undercurrent assumption that play without safewords is an "advanced" technique and should not be advocated in the hearing of novices. BDSM activity without a safeword is regarded by many as inadvisable and dangerous.

If used, the safeword should be respected unconditionally. After the bottom uses the safeword, the activity or entire scene is over, inflicting pain or any physical forcing should be stopped and all restraints should be removed immediately. Ignoring safewords is considered dishonorable and a deeply immoral practice in the BDSM community and can lead to criminal charges. (The "yellow safeword" mentioned above is however not obligatory.)

Urolagnia (also known as urophilia) is a paraphilia involving sexual attraction to urine.

People with urolagnia often like to urinate in public, or urinate on, or be urinated on by, other people, and may drink the urine. Some like to watch others doing these things. These activities are often described by the euphemisms "golden showers" or "watersports".

It is generally considered harmless, as the urine of healthy individuals is sterile. However, a small risk exists if there is disease present, or bacterial infection of the urethra. There may also be secondary effects, such as skin rashes in individuals sensitive to urine. HIV can be transmitted in urine.

In the absence of STDs, urine is generally safe to drink in small quantities. The main dangers are the high salt and mineral content. The high salt content usually does not pose a problem if the urine is sufficiently diluted and not consumed in mass quantities. One may also wish to drink some water after consuming urine in order to mitigate the effect of the high salt. The person whose urine will be consumed may also wish to drink some water (or diet soda, see below) several hours before the act in order to dilute the urine.

Since artificial sweeteners are excreted in urine, consuming artificial sweetener before urine play can lend a sweet taste to the urine. Drinking diet soda, or other beverages containing artifical sweetener, before urine play will have the dual effect of diluting the urine and sweetening it. However, if you taste sugar in you or your partner's urine and you or your partner have not consumed artificial sweetener, this may be a sign of diabetes and you should see a doctor.

The participants should use caution or avoid drinking urine if one or both of them are taking vitamin or mineral supplements or medication, since many of these are excreted in urine.

Overview
A gag is a device designed to cover or be inserted into the mouth to prevent the wearer from talking or crying out. in BDSM gags have a very strong symbolic value. They prevent the submissive from talking or communicating with the dominant in anything but the most basic way. This enhances the loss of control that the sub experiences in a scene which in turn can magnify the D/S dynamic between the players. The gag is also an invasion the sub's body which is another strong D/S signal.

There are a number of different designs of gags which are used in BDSM play.

Ball Gags
A ball gags as the name suggests is based on a ball which is forced into the subs mouth and then held in place by a stap running through it and then tied behind the back of the neck. Ball gags are the most common type of gag used in BDSM play. They are very effecting at preventing the sub from talking. When strapped in tightly they are almost impossible to spit out. Visually they look very dramatic, distorting the face and forcing the mouth open. From the persepctive of the wearer they also feel very submissive and it is impossible to forget that you are wearing one.

A less common design is to have the ball attached to a leather plate which covers the mouth and is held in place by a strap. Gags of this design are less effective than the tradition ball gag as the sub is more able to spit the gag out, they also tend to be less effective in silencing the sub. They do, however, work very well with hoods as they require a much smaller mouth opening than a traditional ball gag and the hood helps keep the gag in place.

Ball gags come in different sizes to suit different mouth sizes. Using the correct sized gag with greatly enhance the experience of wearing it. Too smaller gag will be ineffective at silencing the sub and the visual impact will be diminished, using too big a gag will put the subs jaw under starin which will quickly become painful. There is also a real risk that the sub might choke or retch.

Bit Gags
A bit gag is based on a horses bit and is often used in pony play. As a tool for silence a sub it is much less effetive than a ball gag howevr the visual impact is as great (some might say greater) than a ball gag. The risks of wearing a bit gag are much less than a ball gag since it does not obstruct the airway.

Penis Gags
A penis gag is a gag based on a rubber penis or dildo (usually only a few cm long) which is attached to a leather plate (to prevent it being swallowed) and forced into the subs mouth. Particular care must be taken when playing with penis gags because of their size then tend to get pushed further back in the mouth. This means that there is a much greater risk of the wearer choking. In my opinion penis gags are better as an idea than in practice. They can move around the mouth much more than a ball gag and that makes them less effecting in gagging the submissive and making it easier for the sub to spit the gag out. They can be made more effective by using them in conjunction with a hood or a ring gag.

Ring Gags
Ring gags are similar in concept to a ball gag but replace the ball with a metal ring which forces the subs mouth open. In BDSM play the main reason for doing this is to make it impossible for the sub to refuse to accept any thing place in his/her mouth (usually someones penis!). This makes ring gags particually effective in scenes that have a strong D/S element.

Inflatable Gags
An inflatable gag is a rubber balloon (often attached to a leather plate to hold it in place) with a valve and a pump. Once inserted into the subs mouth it is inflated to fill the subs mouth in much the same way as a ball gag. Inflatable gags are very effective in silencing the wearer but they also block the airway and for this reason the sub should never be left alone while wearing it.
