Woodshed treatment

A woodshed treatment means a very severe physical punishment such as a flogging.
The original significance of the term was that to administer this punishment, a father would take his son to the bottom of the garden, behind the woodshed, out of sight and to some extent out of the hearing of female members of the family who might be distressed.
