Can-can dancers

A can-can is a lively dance, popular in Paris in the late 19th century and still performed today.

It is performed by female dancers, wearing long, loose skirts and petticoats. They perform high kicks, allowing the audience to see their petticoats and drawers (or, in modern times, panties). It has been claimed that in the most disreputable theatres, the dancers wore no drawers, so that the audience could see the dancers' crotches.
