Cow whip

A cow whip (sometimes called a Florida Cow Whip) is a type of singletail whip that was developed for use by cowboys in the state of Florida in the southern United States. It resembles an Australian stock whip.

The most obvious differences between a cow whip and a stock whip are:

• A cow whip is usually braided from nylon cord (often called parachute cord) instead of leather or kangaroo hide, so that it can better withstand the wet conditions in the swampy areas where it was developed.
• The cow whip does not have the flexible joint that is characteristic of a stock whip.
• The braided body of the cow whip often fits into a recess in one end of the handle and is often secured with a piece of the centre braiding that exits a hole in the side of the handle and is tied around the handle.
