Rope used for bondage

A rope is a length of fibres, twisted or braided together to improve strength for pulling, connecting and tying. It has tensile strength but is too flexible to provide compressive strength (i.e., it can be used for pulling, not pushing).

Rope is widely used in bondage, being effective when used properly and cheap and versatile.

Hemp and jute are the most popular materials. Linen and bamboo are becoming more popular. Cotton is only recommended for tying people who are lying on the floor. The others are regarded by many authorities as not suitable for bondage. Manila is strong, but if you get a rope burn from it, it is often far more serious then from common rope bondage materials.

A good thickness for most bondage purposes is 6mm (1/4 inch). For delicate work, such as tying thumbs or big toes together, a thinner rope, 4mm (1/6 in) is better.
