Stress position

Holding the elbows touching is a stress position.

A stress position is a body position that puts stress on a relatively small part of the body. Maintaining such a position for a long period of time can lead to severe pain in that part of the body. Thus forcing a captive to adopt one of these positions may amount to torture, with the advantage for the captor that it leads to few or no visible marks.

Sometimes, someone may be forced to remain in a stress position by the use of bondage. Good examples are La Crapaudine and elbow bondage with the elbows pressed close together and the shoulders thus forced backward. If padded straps rather than ropes are used, there will again be few or no visible marks.
