Gay?

"It is said that many male dancers are gay." Could this be toned down or removed? I know three ballet groups and none of the men in it are gay. In fact, I'd say that a good half of the reason for them taking up ballet was to be able to get to the lovely girls! --Interesdom 21:03, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

I don't claim for a second that all or even most male dancers are gay. However, it is a fact that it is said that many male dancers are gay, and I can give lots of references; it is also a fact that many eminent dancers, such as Nijinsky, Frederick Ashton, Robert Helpmann and Rudolf Nureyev, were gay. Still, if you can suggest a better wording I'm happy to use it.--Speedoslover 06:34, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
But it also true that it is said that many male dancers are heterosexual and it is also said that many female dancers are gay, so how about "It is said that many dancers are gay or heterosexual." But I'm sure you can see that - other than being more accurate - this adds nothing to the topic as a whole. If you really feel that sexual orientation is important to the topic, how about "Some prominant male ballet dancers are gay but many are not." --Interesdom 15:50, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
I agree it is immaterial to the article if ballet dancers are hetro or gay. I have to say I think the article is a real mess and needs a complete rewrite. This is not a general encyclopeadia any articles should be focused on the fetish BDSM angle and not general information or personal opinion. Balzac 19:10, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Not sure how revealing they really are, since they're generally worn with something opaque underneath... AnonMoos (talk) 06:23, 26 March 2013 (GMT)

Just look at the top two photos. You can see the chap's and the right hand young lady's panties quite clearly. Or try the photo below.--Leafman (talk) 08:00, 26 March 2013 (GMT)

In any ordinary normal professional dance or dance teaching context (including File:493483661 9c1e2a6d13 o.jpg) you don't see panties, you see the lower part of the opaque leotard or bodysuit. The tutu's originally intended (non-fetish) purpose is to suggest a woman's skirt, while still allowing a female dancer full freedom of movement, and allowing other dancers to lift her etc. without interference from skirts. It's not really intended to conceal or reveal, since it goes over costumes that are already unexposing without it. AnonMoos (talk) 13:38, 27 March 2013 (GMT)
