Talk:List of abbreviations

We already have an Abbreviations page. Anything here not on there needs to be merged and this can then be removed (or redirected). --Interesdom 02:57, 21 Jun 2005 (BST)

Yes, in starting to disintermediate redirects I found the (mis-named) page at Abbreviations. As that page though has a complete mixture of BDSM-related and internet-related abbreviations it probably makes sense to separate them out to make the lists more meaningful (and therefore useful to visitors). A page titled Abbreviations would be more like wikipedia:Abbreviations. ie about the construction of initialisms and the like, rather than the listing of relevant ones. --VampWillow 12:31, 21 Jun 2005 (BST)
Not sure I totally agree with the naming issue of Abbreviations - this is not a general encyclopedia so we don't have to follow the precise conventions required of one and wouldn't have thought that an article about what an abbreviation is has a place here (it would just redirect to 'List of abbreviations'). However, I'm not too fussed.
I am concerned about having lots of different lists, however and don't see how it helps. If someone wants to know what a specific abbreviation means, perhaps with link to further information on here. I don't see that it matters that it is one of twenty or one of fifty abbreviations on a page. If they just want to surf for BDSM or Fetish-related terms, there are the categories. Furthermore, what we call a "BDSM abbreviation" is very subjective: while something like "B&D" clearly is and "ATSL" probably isn't, "BJ" or "CFS" is not so clear. There are some on the Abbreviations page which could, perhaps, be removed but I have to wonder why bother - someone looking for "HOH" isn't going to be bothered about there being "HTH" below or "HNG" above. I have thought to put extra columns on the Abbreviations table to highlight various categories they fit into (such as BDSM, Fetish, Dating, Communication, Health) but when I sampled a few, I became very confused as to what to put where. BTW, please don't take this disagreement as any kind of put-off. Your input here is very welcome and I don't want to put you off from contributing. --Interesdom 11:45, 28 Jun 2005 (BST)
