A gimp suit is a garment designed to cover the body completely (usually including the hands and feet) and to be very close-fitting. It often has an attached hood; if not, it will be worn with a bondage hood or gimp mask. It may be made from rubber, PVC, spandex, darlex or leather, although leather (not being stretchy) cannot be as close-fitting as the others.
It differs from a catsuit, unitard or zentai more in its purpose than its appearance. It is used in BDSM to objectify and depersonalise the wearer with the aim of transforming him or her into a sexual object, rather than a person.
[edit] Use in films
Two films to feature characters in gimp suits are The People Under the Stairs (1991) and Pulp Fiction (1994).
