Philia (from the Greek philia, friendship) is a suffix used in many words to denote a love of something. In particular, it can be used in words to describe some fetishes.

Examples

  • Harmatophilia is arousal from sexual incompetence and mistakes.
  • Hierophilia is arousal from religious paraphernalia.
  • Necrozoophilia is the love of, or sexual preoccupation for, practising sex on dead animals. It is the bestial form of necrophilia.
  • Olfactophilia is arousal from body odours.
  • Pecattiphilia is arousal from sinning (Latin peccavi, "I have sinned").
  • Salophilia is a sexual attraction to salt or salty things (especially body sweat). The term derives from the Latin for salt, sal.
  • Zelophilia is when one becomes sexually aroused by feelings of jealousy. (Etymology: Zelotypia (jealousy) + Greek phileein, to love.)
